Is it possible to have weak eye muscles?

Is it possible to have weak eye muscles? I was told this by my optician and asked to carry out eye exercises, but I am a bit unsure and haven't been able to find any info backing this up.

Optician’s answer

It is possible to have weak eye muscles. More commonly this is known as an eye muscle imbalance.

Each eye has 6 eye muscles to hold the eye in place and to help it move in different directions, they must all work together within the same eye and between eyes for you to get a single clear image.
A muscle imbalance occurs when the eye muscles are not working well together.

A small weakness can be corrected with eye exercises. The exercise will vary with the type of muscle imbalance you have.
