Can I wear contact lenses if I only use glasses for reading?

If you have no need for glasses for distance vision but are reliant on wearing glasses for reading you could discuss the various contact lens options available to you with your optician.

  • Multifocal Lenses: these lenses work in a similar way to varifocal glasses. As you will not have a prescription for distance the prescription will vary from 0.00 to gradually increasing in power.
  • Monovision: this may not suit all people and your optician will be able to advise if this will work for you. Once eye will be corrected to for reading and the other eye will not have a lens, this can take a while to get use but once your brain has gotten used to the idea this can work very well.
