Who is Menicon?

Miru is made by Menicon, Japan's largest contact lens manufacturer. The company has been going for more than 70 years and is known worldwide for precision engineering and inventive lens design. Miru means “to see” in Japanese, which says a lot about what the brand's about. 

What are Miru contact lenses? 

Miru contact lenses come in two types: daily disposables and monthly lenses. Each uses its own technology, but they're all built around the same goal: the most comfortable, hygienic wear possible, day after day.

What makes Miru different from other contact lenses? 

1. Smart Touch™ technology: more hygienic than ever 

This is probably the biggest difference. With traditional contact lenses, the lens sits in a bowl-shaped blister with the inner surface facing up. To remove it, you have to scoop it out with your finger, which means touching the inner surface of the lens. 

With Miru, that changes. Thanks to Smart Touch™ technology, the lens sits the other way round in the packaging, inner surface facing down. You never touch the inner surface at all. Research shows this significantly reduces the risk of bacterial contamination: 64% of Miru lenses remain contamination-free, compared to just 36% with traditional packaging. 

Whether you're new to contact lenses or just find lens handling a bit fiddly, this makes a real difference. 

2. Silicone hydrogel: more oxygen for healthier eyes 

Both the Miru 1day UpSide and Miru 1month are made from silicone hydrogel. This material lets significantly more oxygen through to your eye than traditional hydrogel lenses. More oxygen means healthier eyes, even after a long day in front of a screen. 

The Miru 1month has a Dk/t value of 161, among the highest oxygen transmissibility of any monthly lens on the market. 

3. UV protection 

The Miru 1day UpSide offers Class 2 UV protection, blocking 84% UVA and 96% UVB. It's a welcome extra layer of protection for your eyes, especially in summer or on a ski trip. Please note: contact lenses should never replace sunglasses. 

4. Exceptionally soft and comfortable 

Miru uses MeniSilk™ Air material, an ultra-soft, low modulus silicone hydrogel. In simple terms: the lens feels softer on your eye, similar to a hydrogel lens, but with all the benefits of silicone. Less friction, less irritation, more wearing comfort. 

Each lens also has a NanoGloss™ Pro surface treatment: a nanometre-precision, super-smooth surface that minimises friction and locks in moisture. The result: lenses that feel fresh and comfortable all day long. 

The Miru Flat Pack: the world's slimmest contact lens packaging 

The Miru 1day Flat Pack takes things a step further than the standard UpSide packaging. It's the world's slimmest contact lens pack, and you'll notice it immediately.

How to remove your Miru lens from the Flat PackMiru contact lenses, easy to use 

Getting your lens out of a Miru Flat Pack works a little differently to a standard blister pack. If you're used to googling how to remove contact lenses from a normal pack, forget what you know: here's how: 

Step 1: Open 

Peel back the foil from the packaging. The outer surface of the lens faces up, so you won't touch the inner surface. 

Step 2: Pinch 

Gently pinch the sides of the pack. Don't scoop the lens out: this is the most common mistake first-time users make. 

Step 3: Place on your finger 

Lift the lens onto your finger. Because it's already the right way round, there's no need to check whether it's inside out. 

From here, insert the lens as you normally would. Most wearers find the whole process around 2x faster than with traditional packaging.
