How to autumn-proof your workout

As we head into winter it can be hard to get out of bed in the morning, let alone work out. But with a little planning and a few small changes, it’s easy to stay active right through ‘til spring.

We’re sharing our top autumn hacks to make sure nothing stands between you and your workout.

Home workouts

You don’t need fancy gym equipment to work up a sweat. If you can’t face the outdoors, complete a quick floor session in your living room or tune into an online class. It’s cost-effective and a great wet-weather option.

Have the right kit

Your outdoor workouts don’t have to stop when the first leaves drop. Just five minutes of exercising outside can boost your energy and mood — even when it’s chilly. If you’re running in cold conditions, just be sure to invest in some warm clothes and sturdy footwear. Layer up with an insulated jacket, thermal leggings and a warm hat. If you don’t fancy being outside for too long, try swapping your run for a short HIIT session.

Anyone who’s tried working out in specs will know that contact lenses are essential when it comes to exercise. Unlike glasses, they won’t fall off mid-move or obstruct your peripheral vision, nor will they fog up or get splattered by the rain (or sweat!).

Preparation is key

If you exercise first thing, scrambling around for your workout clothes is half the battle. By laying out your kit the night before, you’re preparing your mind for exercise and eliminating some of the thought processes that might stop you from getting out the door. If you can roll out of bed and slip into your clothes, you’ll have no reason to stall because you can’t find your trainers.

Try something new

If you’re digging deep, but can’t find the motivation to work out, it might be time for a change. Autumn is a great time to take advantage of seasonal activities, like walking, hiking and exploring the UK’s gorgeous parks and woodlands.

Exercise outdoors at lunchtime

If the darker mornings are killing your motivation to exercise outdoors, try switching up your routine. Tons of research points to the benefits of midday exercise, including increased creativity and reduced stress. If you’re most productive in the morning, choose to work out just before your energy dips. It’ll give your eyes a break from the screen, and you’ll feel re-energised for the rest of the day. Wins all around.

Create a schedule

Life’s busy, so finding time to exercise can be tough. However, research suggests that creating a weekly workout schedule can help you stick to your fitness routine. Make it a Sunday night ritual to plan your workouts and add them to your calendar.

Whether you're into hiking, biking, jogging or yoga, contact lenses give you complete freedom to move without the hassle of wearing specs. Low on lenses? Order your favourites in just a few clicks.
