What is presbyopia?

Struggling to see up close is a normal experience occurring from your 40s onwards. It's called presbyopia.

Focusing on objects up close becomes increasingly difficult and you may find your prescription changes. This is caused by the lens in the eye losing flexibility as you age.

Signs of presbyopia

  • Difficulty reading menus or text messages
  • Eye strain
  • Headaches and/or fatigue

When you are over the age of 40 and are experiencing one or more of the above symptoms, then you may be developing presbyopia.

If you don't want to give up your contact lenses, but think you may be experiencing signs of presbyopia, ask your optician if wearing multifocal lenses would be right for you.

Changing to new lenses may require a fitting by an optician, but Lenstore.co.uk contact lens customers are entitled to eye tests and contact lens aftercare for no extra cost at any Vision Express store nationwide.

Presbyopia doesn't mean giving up contact lenses

When you have an active lifestyle and don't want to carry a pair of glasses around just to check your phone (or whether you feel the look just isn't ‘you’), there's another option. Multifocal contact lenses mean you're never too old for contact lenses, and there's no need to carry around and swap between pairs of glasses.

All ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses have UV Blocking to help provide protection against transmission of harmful UV radiation to the cornea and into the eye. UV absorbing contact lenses are NOT substitutes for protective UV absorbing eyewear such as UV absorbing goggles or sunglasses because they do not completely cover the eye and surrounding area. You should continue to use UV absorbing eyewear as directed by your optician.
