Make the most of the last days of summer with ACUVUE® contact lenses

Summer’s not over just yet. With August Bank Holiday on the horizon, there are still plenty of opportunities to soak up what’s left of our favourite season.

Whether you’re up for a chilled day at the beach or something more adventurous, you can enjoy a safe and social summer with ACUVUE® contact lenses. The most trusted brand by eye care professionals in the UK.¹

Here are five fun activities to see out summer.

Fire up the BBQ

For most of us, a sizzling barbecue is the classic scent of summer. If you’re not ready to visit the local pub just yet, why not host a (socially distanced) BBQ in your back garden? It’ll give you peace of mind and allow you to see your loved ones’ faces in the privacy of your own garden.

The key to a great BBQ is to keep it casual. Pick one or two quality meats, a veggie option (veggie skewers are always a win!) and some fresh salads. You’ll also want a good supply of drinks on ice to keep everyone cool and hydrated. You don’t need to make it a formal sit down affair, just set up a big table and enough chairs for your guests.  A summer playlist will add ambience to your soiree, while garden games like giant Jenga or boules will provide some post-barbeque entertainment.

Top tip: If you can shop locally, you’ll benefit from fresher meat and produce while also supporting small businesses (win-win!).

Get active outdoors

If there’s one thing we could really use after months of hunkering down, it’s fresh air and wide-open views. Luckily, there are plenty of scenic spots right on our doorstep. The UK’s 15 national parks and gorgeous countryside offer countless opportunities for outdoor adventures. You’ll find waterfalls and wildlife in the Durham Dales, lofty peaks in the Lake District and salt marshes in Swansea. Besides the great views, hiking benefits your whole body and has been shown to boost your mood and memory, too. If cycling’s more your thing, soak up the views along Cornwall’s Camel Trail, or try the Elan Valley for something more off the beaten track.

Top tip: Along with the health benefits of wearing a fresh lens every day, 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST give you the freedom to get active outdoors without your specs slipping down your face. If you like to switch between glasses and contacts, or only wear lenses on the weekend for sports or socialising, daily disposables give you the freedom to do so.

Pack up the perfect picnic

summer picnic

There’s nothing more British than a picnic on a warm summer’s day. We’ve spent the last couple of months perfecting the perfect picnic spread, so we’ve got a few ideas to help you make the most of your alfresco meals this summer.

Our handy checklist includes a waterproof blanket, cutlery, bin bags and eco-friendly picnic supplies, like compostable cups, plates and napkins. If you’re feeling fancy, you can bring along jugs, trays, a small folding table and some comfy cushions. And don’t forget a chopping board it’s perfect for slicing, dicing, and dividing up your picnic treats once you reach your destination. If you don’t fancy sandwiches, why not mix up some fresh salads, a savoury tart or a delicious Spanish omelette?

Top tip: Dig out old jam jars for individual salads, pasta or delicious desserts (no-bake blueberry cheesecake is our favourite!).

Get your nature fix

camping

If you want to get back to nature but don’t fancy a basic camping trip, luxury glamping is just the ticket. There are tons of remote, quirky and luxurious spaces up and down the country, from cosy cabins and eco-pods to lavish treehouses and yurts. Most spaces are kitted out with plush furnishings, double beds and burning stoves. To make it feel like you’re glamping, you’ll want to cook and eat outdoors, and get out and see the local sights. As any good scout knows, the key to camping is to be prepared. Pack light, but pack well. You’ll want items like a map, torch, carrier bags, sun cream and a first aid kit. Lots of campsites have reopened, but be sure to check the park’s site before you travel.

Top tip: Keeping your vision clear and your contact lenses clean while camping is made easy by 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST. You can simply remove and safely discard the lens at the end of each day’s wear, without the fuss of cleaning or carrying solution. As always, you’ll want squeaky clean hands before touching your contact lenses. You can check out our top lens care tips here

Cool off at the coast

Fun fact: No matter where you are in the UK, you’re never more than 80 miles from the sea (pretty cool, huh?). And with over 11,000 miles of coastline, you’re guaranteed to find your perfect stretch of sand. If you’re looking for a remote shoreline, you can’t beat the sandy coves and sea vistas of Cornwall’s Penwith Peninsula. Margate is one of the UK’s best beaches and has recently been dubbed the new Shoreditch-on-the-Sea. We also love Bantham Beach in South Devon ideal for anyone wanting to try their hand (or foot!) at surfing.

Top tip: If you’re hitting the beach, or spending time outdoors, you’ll want to be well-equipped with your favourite sunnies. All ACUVUE® contact lenses have UV Blocking to help protect your eyes against the sun’s harmful rays. Pair them with your sunglasses for that extra bit of sun protection. *

However you choose to spend the last few weeks of summer, 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST contact lenses give you the freedom to enjoy sports and socialise safely. They’re also conveniently available as 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST for ASTIGMATISM and 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST MULTIFOCAL. You can shop the full collection of 1-DAY ACUVUE® contact lenses here. Order by 11pm Monday to Friday and we’ll deliver to your door the next day.  Remember, if you’re considering switching lenses, we always recommend speaking to your Optician first.

While contact lenses are perfect for an active lifestyle, it is important to avoid swimming with your contact lenses as it is not advised to expose your contact lenses to water. This is true for water sports and swimming but also everyday contact with water such as showering, bathing and using a hot tub.
* All ACUVUE Brand contact lenses have UV Blocking to help provide protection against transmission of harmful UV radiation to the cornea and into the eye. UV absorbing contact lenses are NOT substitutes for protective UV absorbing eyewear such as UV absorbing goggles or sunglasses because they do not completely cover the eye and surrounding area. You should continue to use UV absorbing eyewear as directed by your eye care professional.
