Manufacturer:

Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism contact lenses are designed and manufactured by Alcon, a world-renowned specialist in the eye care industry.

Brand:

Air Optix is a brand owned and operated by Alcon.

Type of Lens:

Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism contact lenses are a monthly-use contact lens for wearers with astigmatic prescriptions. Each lens can be worn for up to 30 days, though they will need to be removed, cleaned and stored overnight correctly after each day of use; Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism can also be worn as extended wear for up to 6 consecutive days, with approval from your optician.

Material:

Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism contact lenses are made with Lotrafilcon B. Lotrafilcon B is a silicone hydrogel with a water content of 33% that allows more oxygen to pass through the lens to the cornea than regular soft (hydrogel) contacts - improving breathability for added comfort.

Technology:

Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism contact lenses have been designed by Alcon with technologies employed to improve effectiveness and the comfort of wearers:

HydraGlyde Moisture Matrix - HydraGlyde Moisture Matrix technology uses a block copolymer that surrounds the lens with an envelope of moisture; it offers a unique hydrophilic barrier that lowers friction during wear to provide extra hydration throughout the day, improving comfort for wearers.

SmartShield Technology - SmartShield is a technology from Alcon that creates a permanent ultrathin protective shield around the contact lens, lowering the amount of exposed silicone atoms at the surface. This technology helps the lens to resist lipid deposits and improves wettability and hydration.

Precision Balance 8|4 Lens Design - Precision Balance 8|4 is a trademarked, unique design for toric contact lenses from Alcon that helps to provide a stabilised lens fit and wearing experience, using two points of stability. This technology also helps to reduce interaction between the lens and eyelid, improving comfort.

Pack Sizes:

Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism contact lenses are available in packs of 3 or 6 lenses. Each lens will last for 30 days, being removed, cleaned and stored correctly overnight after each day of use. This means that a pack of 3 monthly-use lenses will last for around 3 months and a pack of 6 monthly-use lenses will last for around 6 months..

Availability for Myopia, Hypermetropia and Presbyopia:

Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism contact lenses are manufactured for wearers with astigmatism, though Alcon also makes other options for different prescriptions. Alcon offers Air Optix plus Hydraglyde lenses for wearers with myopia and hypermetropia (short or long sight), and Air Optix plus Hydraglyde Multifocal for wearers with presbyopic prescriptions.

Alternatives

Not sure that Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism contact lenses are the right choice for you? You may want to consider alternative brands.

Before you try a different brand of contact lens, you will need to consult your optician to make sure that any alternative is suitable for you, and also fitted correctly.

Biofinity Toric

Biofinity Toric are monthly-use contact lenses produced by CooperVision for wearers with astigmatic prescriptions. Thanks to the highly breathable silicone hydrogel material and CooperVision’s Aquaform technology; these lenses deliver wettability and comfort over long periods of wear, making them good for continuous wear, when approved by your optician. These lenses have also been designed to stabilise themselves to ensure prompt and consistent quality of vision.

Avaira Vitality Toric

Avaira Vitality Toric contact lenses are a monthly-use alternative from CooperVision designed for wearers with astigmatic prescriptions. These lenses feature a UV filter that blocks over 90% of UVA rays, and 99% of UVB rays, making them an ideal choice for wearers who spend a lot of time outdoors, either for work or leisure. The use of a breathable silicone hydrogel combined with an enhanced water content in Avaira Vitality Toric creates a lens that provides improved comfort during wear, while CooperVision's optimised toric lens geometry features a larger optic zone and stability to orientate the lens for enhanced performance, clarity and comfort.
